Exposition
One thing that occurs in the exposition of Life As We Knew It is the reader finds out that Miranda's step-mother, Lisa, is pregnant. Also, they find out about how Miranda feels about Matt - that she sees him as a role model. In addition, most of the characters in the story are introduced and their personalities are shown.
Rising Action
One thing that happens in the rising action is the moon is hit by an asteroid and knocked closer to Earth. After the moon comes closer, many disasters begin to occur. Tsunamis flood islands and coastlines, earthquakes happen more often, and volcanos start appearing in many new places. Due to the catastrophes, food and water becomes scarce. On top of everything else, mosquitos with malaria and other diseases starting migrating to the United States. Plus, Miranda's friend Dan moves away because things are getting worse. In addition, her friend Megan dies and another one of her friends, Sammi, moves down South with a 40 year old due to the conditions.
Climax
The climax of Life As We Knew It is when August hits. The weather starts to behave as if it were the middle of winter. It starts snowing a ton and the temperatures drop severely low - and it's only the end of summer, so things in winter would be much worse.
Falling Action
Matt, Jonny, and their mom all become sick with the flu. Eventually, the three of them get a little better. When Miranda goes to get Peter from the hospital, she finds out that he's died. Also, Mrs. Nesbitt dies in her sleep one night.
Resolution
Miranda goes to find a letter from her father, and finds that the post office is close. But, she also finds a letter saying that there's food available at the City Hall. She goes there and gets four bags of food. Then every week from then on they get four bags delivered to their - one for each of them. Since they survived the worst already, they'll be able to survive everything else.
